Tuesday, 16th December was a great night. The first of I hope many ResTrunG Tadley Squash Club championships.
With the promise of competitive squash, silverware, pizza & beer on offer, 9 trophy hunters came a hunting for the glory of holding aloft the magnificent ResTrunG trophy - made apparently from the finest pot metal money can buy.
The format was to be American scoring to 11 with a no 2 points clear rule. Everyone to play each other once with the top two points scorers going straight to the final & the 3rd & 4th place point scorers playing for, well yes, 3rd & 4th place.
The bookies made Dave Thomas a 1/2 favourite with Stuart Morgan evens & Dan Oliver a 2/1 shot.
As you could expect the action was full on - every man was giving it everything & more. Brutal rallies a plenty. Power, precision, craft, cunning, disguise, stamina, commitment, blood, sweat & dives - just a few of the words that summed up the action.
Dave was playing awesome squash. He looked determined & totally focused. It was pretty clear half way through the round robin matches Dave would secure a final space but who he would play was definitely in doubt. Dan & Stuart were both totting up the points nicely & Gav was on fire recording some great wins. Chris was scoring well too, with notable wins against both Dan & Stuart. Paul, with his whole hearted commitment was also scoring very well. In fact he should of got bonus points for spilling blood for the cause, as should Mark.
When all the games had finished Dave was indeed straight into the final having won every single match. It was then between Dan & Gav as to who would play him. After several recounts it was confirmed that they had both scored 80 points, so it was then decided on points against. Gav, had conceded less, so he made the final. Good on you Gav!
Stuart & Dan would contest the 3rd & 4th place game with Paul just a few points back
